The “Justice for Lesly Palacio” protest was held Friday afternoon at the Regional Justice Center in Las Vegas
LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – Lesly Palacio’s family is continuing the appeal for justice. It comes after Jose Rangel, the father of the man accused of killing Palacio, pleaded guilty to destroying evidence in the case.
He faces up to two years in prison, but for Palacio’s family, two years is not enough. Now they are speaking out at a peaceful demonstration downtown.
This peaceful demonstration began at the Regional Justice Center.
Last week, Jose Rangel pleaded guilty to destroying evidence and being complicit in Palacio’s murder.
In a video, first obtained by the I-Team, Rangel is seen helping his son move Palacio’s body.
He apparently washed the blood from his driveway after his body was dragged.
His son, Erick Rangel-Ibarra, is still at large, but Jose Rangel has reached a plea deal and now faces up to two years in prison.
Palacio’s family are outraged and say Lesly deserves justice.
“There is no justice,” said Kaly Palacio, Lesly’s sister. “What kind of message does this send to the community? That we can ask someone to help commit a murder and only get two years.
Friday’s protest was aimed at convincing the courts that Rangel deserved a longer sentence.
The crowd eventually made their way west to the Clark County Detention Center.
