POSITION FOR WHICH YOU ARE RUNNING: Niagara Regional Council will represent St. Catharines

PAST POLITICAL EXPERIENCE: None, although I was preparing to run, I volunteered in the campaigns of local federal and provincial candidates. I know that my lived experience, my education, my work experience and my love for my community give me the experience I need to run for this election.

WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO RUN?

I have witnessed the evolution of my city and my region. There is an increase in racism, homelessness, opioid overdoses, suicides and mental health crises. I want to be the voice of those who cannot use theirs. I want to use my compassion and lived experience in decision making and budget spending.

HOW WILL YOU EMBRACE AND PROMOTE DIVERSITY IN THIS ROLE?

I recovered from addiction and homelessness for over 10 years. This diversity and experience gives me the empathy to embrace the whole community in this role. I will seek knowledge and guidance from our LGBTQS+ and BIPOC communities and encourage their input into regional budget spending and policy development.

WHAT ARE YOUR THREE MAIN PROBLEMS?

Homelessness, addiction and mental health are closely linked. We need funding for shelter beds, emergency beds and equitable access to services. Lack of diversity in decision-making and affordable housing are my other two issues. We need a new way of thinking to replace the old way of doing things.

IF YOU ARE ELECTED, WHAT DO YOU PLAN TO ACCOMPLISH IN YOUR FIRST 100 DAYS?

I intend to obtain funding for the Out of the Cold/Out of the Heat shelter program. There is no shelter during the summer. I can assure you; I will accomplish the defense of social justice, diversity and community. I will accomplish by giving your voice a platform to be heard.
