A Benefit for Reproductive Justice at Green Room 42

Green Room 42 will present Ruth Sent Us: A Benefit For Reproductive Justice on October 11 at 7:00 p.m. Dedicated to the late great Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, this one-night-only concert will celebrate RBG’s legacy through song and discussion from the Broadway community. Heather Booth, civil rights activist and founder of JANE consults. Directed and produced by Mara Jill Herman with musical direction by Andrea Grody, a portion of proceeds will be donated to the Jewish Fund for Abortion Access.

“When I gathered with others in Washington Square Park to protest the reversal of Roe v. Wade, one of the protest signs read ‘Ruth sent us.’ The impact of that statement touched me. hard and personally. RBG had a profound influence on me as a New York Jew and the second woman (and first Jewish female judge) in history to serve on the Supreme Court,” Herman says. “In the months since Following this reprehensible decision, friends came together to advocate for a world where abortion is accessible, affordable, destigmatized…and legal. Ruth Sent Us will star Jennifer Apple, Rebecca Hargrove, Kendyl Ito, Annemarie Josephson, Austin Ku, Lauren Lebowitz, Mauricio Martinez, Tara Novie, Andrea Pilar, Andrea Prestinario, Tunisia Renee, Celia Mei Rubin, Tatiana Scott, Anne Fraser Thomas and American Sweethearts members Mollie Craven, Kristen Michelle and Samantha Joy Pearlman. Original music by duos Marina Pires and Luke Wygodny of The Heartstrings Project; Lisa Diana Shapiro and Miriam Daly; and Emmy nominee David Dabbon and SEVAN. Shara Ashley Zeiger will moderate a panel discussion. Other artists will be announced.

Mara Jill Herman is an actress, educator and producer dedicated to making art for social change. Her previous benefit concerts have amplified Jewish artists in STRONGER THAN HATE and female/non-binary artists in CHANGEMAKERS. Mara was recently featured on CBS Mornings with the Queens Theater Senior Ensemble for their work in storytelling and engineered theatre. As an actor his favorite productions include RENT (Maureen), BABY (Lizzie), ALL SHOOK UP (Miss Sandra), ON THE TOWN (Hildy), LOVE’S LABOUR’S LOST (Maria) and GUYS AND DOLLS (Adelaide). Development highlights include THE BAND’S VISIT (Hebrew vocalist) and SAM’S ROOM (Impact Award). She is featured on the 2022 concept album HOW TO FIX A MECHANICAL HEART (Kathy). Mara has appeared on JESUS ​​CHRIST SUPERSTAR, Bob Mackie’S BROADWAY and DISNEY ON CLASSIC international tours with Orchestra Japan. Andrea Grody is a musical director, arranger and composer and focuses on the development of new works. She was musical director and additional arranger for THE BAND’S VISIT (Best Musical Tony Award, 2018) and musical director and vocal and accessory arranger for TOOTSIE (nominated Best Musical Tony, 2019). Other recent projects include world premieres of SUFFS (Public Theatre), AS YOU LIKE IT (Public Works) by Shaina Taub, CAKE OFF (Signature Theatre/Bucks County), THE FORTRESS OF SOLITUDE (Public Theatre/Dallas Theater Center) , UNKNOWN SOLDIER (Williamstown) and LOVE’S LABOUR’S LOST (Shakespeare in the Park); and the regional premieres of LA GRANDE IMMENSITÉ and VENISE (public theatre).
